Research & Approach

Honest version

Informed by research. Not a clinical product.

APSTORA is a reflection and education tool. It has not been clinically validated, it doesn't diagnose, and it isn't therapy or crisis care.

What we draw on

Relationship science

Decades of research describe how people read availability, responsiveness and consistency in close relationships. APSTORA uses that vocabulary to help you describe your own experience precisely.

Attachment-informed education

Attachment ideas are used as a lens for reflection, never as a label or a diagnosis. You are not a category, and the app will not assign you one.

Emotion and body awareness

Naming feelings and noticing physical signals is a well-established part of emotion regulation practice. It's why every check-in asks about the body before the story.

Gratitude and positive attention

Deliberately noticing what's working shifts what you attend to. My Assets exists so the good evidence gets recorded, not only the painful evidence.

Behavior-change practice

Small, repeatable actions with feedback are how new responses become available under stress. That's the entire logic of Shift, Pattern Interrupts and Prime My Pattern.

Reports associations between gratitude, perceived partner responsiveness and relationship satisfaction. Cross-sectional and self-report designs describe relationships between variables; they do not establish that one causes the other.

Algoe, S. B., and colleagues — programme of research on gratitude, expressed appreciation and perceived responsiveness in relationships.

Describes gratitude as a 'find, remind and bind' process, with perceived responsiveness — feeling understood, validated and cared for — as a proposed mechanism. Effect sizes vary and much of the work is with community and student samples.

Where the evidence stops

Findings above describe patterns across groups of people, usually from self-report. They don't predict any individual relationship, and none of them are evidence that APSTORA works. We won't display invented statistics or imply a result we can't support.

APSTORA supports reflection and education. It is not therapy, diagnosis, crisis care, or a substitute for professional support. If you are in danger or in crisis, contact local emergency services.
